What is happening to Coinbase Commerce?

Coinbase is retiring the original Coinbase Commerce product and moving merchants to Coinbase Business. Per Coinbase's own transition notice, Commerce is being shut down for merchants outside the United States and Singapore, and the replacement, Coinbase Business, is a custodial platform: Coinbase holds your funds so it can offer bank off-ramps and yield.

That is a real change in model. The original Commerce let merchants self-custody; the successor does not. If self-custody was why you chose Commerce, the migration path takes it away, which is exactly why many merchants are now looking for a non-custodial alternative.

Custodial vs non-custodial: what actually changes for you

With a custodial processor, your balance sits inside the provider until it pays you out; you rely on its schedule, its solvency, and its jurisdiction. With InfraIO Pay, each order is paid into its own per-order deposit address and forwarded automatically to your treasury wallet. There is no house account holding your money and no withdrawal queue, the fundamentals of on-chain accounts mean the keys stay yours.

For a global merchant this also matters for access: a non-custodial, wallet-based checkout works anywhere a buyer has an EVM wallet, without being gated to specific countries.

How InfraIO Pay compares on fees and settlement

Coinbase Business lists a 1% per-transaction fee. InfraIO Pay starts free, with a platform fee that falls to a 0.3% floor as your monthly volume grows, and no setup fee or monthly minimum, you are only charged when a payment settles on-chain. See the pricing page for how the volume tiers work.

Settlement is also different: instead of a Coinbase-held balance you off-ramp to a bank, InfraIO Pay forwards the stablecoins straight to your treasury wallet, so the dollars are yours the moment the payment confirms.

Migrating from Coinbase Commerce

Migration is light because the buyer experience is the same hosted checkout. Connect a treasury wallet, choose the stablecoins and networks you accept, and swap your existing Commerce buttons for an InfraIO Pay payment link, the web SDK, or the API.

  • Connect an EVM treasury wallet you control.
  • Pick your accepted stablecoins and networks.
  • Replace Commerce buttons with a payment link, SDK, or API call.
  • Point your fulfilment webhook at InfraIO Pay's settled event.
