What is InfraIO Wallet?

InfraIO Wallet is a smart-account wallet. A smart account is a small program on the blockchain that decides who may approve a transfer, and in InfraIO Wallet that rule is "this passkey" (see ERC-4337). Your keys stay on your devices and your funds live on the blockchain, so InfraIO cannot move them. The how it works article explains the details, and the wallet page has the overview.

What makes InfraIO Wallet different?

Eight things, each with its limits:

  • No seed phrase to start. You create the wallet with a passkey and approve with Face ID, a fingerprint or your device passcode. There are no 12 or 24 words to write down on day one.
  • Keys stay on your devices. A passkey is kept in your device's secure hardware or in your passkey manager, and the key is never shown to you, to the app or to us. (FIDO Alliance)
  • Passkeys resist look-alike sites. A passkey works only with the app that created it, so a fake website cannot use it the way it can use words typed into a form. (W3C WebAuthn)
  • Backup passkeys. Add a passkey on another device or in another passkey manager, so losing a phone is an inconvenience rather than a disaster.
  • An optional recovery phrase. For a passkey wallet the app suggests one and you can skip it. It is required only for wallets that live on a single device, and before you delete your last passkey.
  • One address on every supported EVM network. Most EVM wallets work this way, so we claim it as a basic, not a trick.
  • Success only after confirmation. A transfer is shown as done only when the network has confirmed it, with the transaction hash and an explorer link so you can check it yourself.
  • Multisig built in (coming soon). Every wallet will start as a 1-of-1 multisig and let you add signers later without changing your address. See what a multisig wallet is.

How does it compare with other wallets?

A fair comparison with a typical seed-phrase wallet, using MetaMask as an example of one, and with the wallet that comes with an exchange account. Each approach has real strengths.

What are the trade-offs?

InfraIO Wallet is not right for everyone, and it is not magic:

  • Your passkey manager account matters. A synced passkey is as safe as the account that syncs it, so protect that account with a strong password and two-step verification. (Apple)
  • You still decide what to approve. A passkey wallet does not stop you from confirming a malicious request yourself, for example a token approval on a scam site. Read what you sign.
  • Nobody can recover it for you. If you lose all your passkeys and have no recovery phrase, InfraIO cannot help, because we hold no copy of your keys.
  • An exchange is simpler for some people. If you want account recovery with a support team, a custodial wallet offers that, in exchange for trusting the exchange with your funds.

What is InfraIO Wallet not yet?

We would rather say it than let you guess:

  • It is not released. The iOS and Android apps and the Chrome extension are coming soon, and none is available to download.
  • Multisig is coming soon and not available yet.
  • It has not been externally audited yet. An external security audit is planned before launch. A plan is not a result, and an audit would not make any wallet risk-free.
  • We do not claim it is unhackable. No wallet is.

Who is behind InfraIO Wallet?

InfraIO Wallet is built by the team behind InfraIO Pay, which helps merchants accept stablecoin payments straight into their own wallets, without InfraIO holding their funds. The wallet follows the same principle: you keep control. See what InfraIO Pay is.
